JASON SMITH, GENERAL MANAGER

Wilmington, DE, August 5, 2008--After an extensive search by the Board of Governors, Jason Smith has been chosen as the new general manager of University and Whist Club. The announcement was made by Theodore H. Dwyer, Jr., president of the Board.

Smith, a native of Delaware and a resident of Pike Creek, has an extensive background in local dining and hospitality management. He spent 11 of the last 13 years at the Wilmington Country Club, where he was most recently a manager in the formal and informal dining rooms.  His experience also includes management of the restaurant at Hartefeld National Golf Course, along with stints as a line cook in several Wilmington-area restaurants.

Smith said his first priority would be to develop a deeper understanding of the current operations of the University and Whist Club by interviewing the entire staff and selected club members.  He said he was "excited to have an opportunity to manage a facility like the Club with its history and reputation for fine dining." Jason said he was looking forward to "trying new things to make the Club more welcoming to existing members and more attractive to new members." He also said a priority would be to make sure the catering and banquet facilities were operating at peak efficiency.

Smith has two children (a 2-year old son Aidan and an 8-year old daughter Alexus) and is a graduate of Brandywine High School. He studied hotel and restaurant management at Delaware Technical & Community College and commercial art and design at the University of Delaware.
